Wolverine: The Weight by LeviWasTaken Wolverine: The Weight by LeviWasTaken
Logan a.k.a. Wolverine is one of the most popular and somtimes over-used character in comics. He's got games, cartoons, movies, and featured in a dozen comics every month, so you have to think of a real good reason to draw him - I mean how can you draw him in a way no one else is? What can you do different to make the art worth making and contributing to that flux of Wolverine images already out there?

This is absolutely brilliant. As a kid, I always liked Wolverine because there always seemed to be a great melancholy to him. And for a character whose entire shtick and power is healing from anything, it seemed that emotional blows always left the biggest scars for him.

This piece gets that. Thank you.

I really love it.
I think of Logan as a one of the most sad characters, but still one of the strongest.

This is *so* lovely. And the poor guy carries so much on his shoulders; you know he has to have moments like this.

Thanks. I wish the comics had more time to slow down and show more of these moments with all the characters.

Very refreshing piece. Wolverine is my favorite comic book character and of course I love to see him be a badass/tear things up. But honestly THIS is why I love the character. He is very deep, complex, troubled character. Sometimes they have story lines that explore this...but not much. When people scoff at me liking Wolverine I wish I could show them those stories...he's a lot more pensive then people give him credit for. Japan stories with him are my favorite.

Have you read "Logan" by Brian K. Vaghan? That was the most recent Wolverine-in-Japan story that really hit me. :)

I have often wondered why Wolverine isn't drawn in this way more often. If anyone really takes the time to think about how things work around him, they must realize that he will have moments like this. I think that it might even be possible for him to become extremely anti social (and not in the gruff "bad-ass" sense as is per normal for him) and want to escape from all this.

That might be me putting my empathetic feelings into a fictional character's head though. ^^;

Either way, this is really well done. Thank you for creating it.

I'm glad you like it.

Although there's definitely a lot of comic storylines that completely ignore this side, every once in a while, you get a great little story that explores such a vastly troubled mind. It's just few and far between. Old Man Logan is one that comes to mind, off the top of my head. :)

I love this picture. Just the idea that, whatever battle he just fought; maybe some thugs, maybe the brotherhood, for whatever reason he sits to rest. The weight of his long, ageless life taking its toll on his virtually immortal heart. To live as long as someone like that, with so much violence in their life, it really is a great way to show such an ironic character. I think to be eternal would leave even someone that brave and cocky to reflect on everything they've done.

I dig it, my friend.

I think you've done just that.

This looks very reflective and Logan seems remorseful about all the killing he's done...

Yeah I've been reading a lot of 80's X-Men comics lately. They really understood the whole 'less is more' approach with him.

What a wonderful depiction. Very emotional, and those droplets of blood are, if you ask me, the best thing about this painting (not that everything else falls behind, on the contrary). His whole body speaks out what he's feeling. I also like that you haven't shown him as an overly muscular, tall man he really isn't. So realistic and wonderful:clap:!

I think you managed to do what you wanted to. When I first saw the painting I thought the same thing, "that's a different way to show Wolverine." It's almost as if a painter had made a portrait of him 200 years ago.
