So first off, huge fan of your work. Fistful of Arrows is one of the best comics I've ever read.

I recently read online that Microsoft has brought Jun back in some recent material, and that he survived the fall of Reach. I always considered Fistful of Arrows to be canon, even if it wasn't truly, because I loved the story and it seemed like the perfect end to a character. Do you mind if I ask how you feel about it?

First off, glad you liked the comic!

Secondly, yeah, I saw Jun in a comic a few months ago while I perusing the comic shop. I had of course intentionally left A Fistful of Arrows vague in case something like that happened so that the whole comic wasn't invalidated. But I also often feel like Jun fell on Reach after the events of my story. Or if he did survive, had likely finished his role with the UNSC. So seeing him in a new comic from Microsoft, working with the UNSC to make more Spartans, wearing a 20th century suit... didn't feel very connected to the character I had come to know through Reach.

But it may be because as a whole, I've come to view Microsoft's Halo and Bungie's Halo as two different things with the same name. After Reach, I tried to keep an open mind, but Halo 4's overall art direction, its portrayal of the UNSC as arrogant jerks, pushing the Sangheili back to one-dimensional villains, and especially the dissolution of the mysterious Forerunner elements that had made the originals so fun to explore, sealed the deal for me. So to see Jun in a Microsoft comic now feels more like crossover fan fiction to me; it doesn't ring true. If it does for you or anyone else, that's great, and I hope this comic continues to work with 343i's new canon.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I agree that there is a definite difference between the Bungie games and Microsoft games, and while some things are gained, like Chief's character development, which I liked, some things are lost in the process. As for me, I think I prefer the character that vanished on Reach.

Thanks again for all that you have added to the Deviantart and Halo communities. Keep up the fantastic work!
